Mass Communication Theory and Enquiry
Mass Communication Theory and Enquiry
Synoptic Critical View of Media World
The Faculty of MCFA engages both staff and undergraduate students with the latest research undertaken in mass communication and its institutions. It aspires to provide all stakeholders, whether staff, students, or industry members, with an integrative framework of study and analysis that includes linking the traditions of the mass communication with contemporaneous cases and issues. This will involve having an interrogative understanding of the theories of mass communications as processes and institutions.
As a learner in this domain, you will be able to get a critical grip on the mass communication business in light of sociological, organizational, cultural and political economic theories.
As well, you will become familiar with the theories of technological and cultural convergence, consumption and creativity in a networked and mediated communication environment, taking into consideration the importance of looking at these mass communication changes from both comparative, intercultural (theories of hybridization) and ‘glocalized’ perspectives (theories of remediation) and systems (theories of power).
You will also be exposed to the mechanics and dynamics of institutional promotion campaigns (e.g. advertising and public relations) with special attention to their political, social, and economic influences.
