MGT 201 Management Principles (3 credits )
The purpose of this course is to help students acquire the fundamentals of management theory necessary to prepare students to understand and comprehend the business world. Topics to be covered include management basics, management history, business culture and ethics, external business environment analysis, decision making, strategic management, departmentalization, leadership and motivation, business communication, human resources management, and control.
Prerequisite: Co-requisite ENG 201
MGT 320 Quality Management Systems (3 credits )
Examines concepts, tools, and techniques used in the management and measurement of quality, productivity, and competitiveness in an international environment. Focuses on how firms add value and compete with quality. Topics include quality control and management, employee involvement in quality, team building for quality, quality circles, relation between quality, productivity, and competitiveness, and statistical process control. Emphasizes the development of decision-making skills through the use of case analysis, field study, consultation with local organizations, and other experimental activities.
Prerequisite: MGT 201, STP 210
MGT 330 / HRM 320 Human Resources Management ( 3 credits )
The focus of this course is to equip students with an understanding of the issues involved in effective management of staff. Topic areas discussed include human resources planning, job analysis and design, recruitment, selection, performance appraisal, training/development, legal requirements, compensation, quality of work life and labor management relations.
Prerequisite: MGT 201
MGT 340 Organizational Behavior ( 3 credits )
Students are oriented toward developing a better understanding of human behavior and using the corresponding knowledge, skills and techniques to help people be more productive and satisfied in organizational settings. Topics of special interest are cause-and-effect relationships, appreciation of the impact of change and defining organizational commitment to deal with it, building a humane concern for people, and sustaining organizational effectiveness. Students in this course shall rely on empirical research and shall be encouraged to use critical thinking, systemic approach, and the use of the scientific method in the dealing with people-issues in the organization.
Prerequisite: MGT 201
MGT 380 Seminar in Management(3 credits)
A variable content classroom course in management in which students pursue topics or subjects of current interest that are not part of the regular curriculum. A specific course description will be published in the course offering schedule.
Prerequisite(s): Consent of Advisor.
MGT 390 Managing Change (3 credits )
This course develops the skills needed for leading change. Change is a basic ingredient of life. Therefore, students will learn how to analyze the forces that drive organizations to change, examine impediments to change, and survey a range of approaches for making organizational change more effective. Students will also acquire knowledge, tools and techniques that develop their understanding of change processes and provide them with hands-on skills for managing and leading change.
Supporting material includes business cases and exercises, workshops, live cases, tool application sessions, and class visitors. Change skills will be applied to important 21st century business issues

MGT 410 Leadership(3 credits)
This foundation course teaches students how leaders get results through people. Students shall be acquainted with the history of leadership skills development, traits, tools, and techniques necessary for a successful “leadership.” Students shall acquire, as well, a set of proven interaction skills, discover leadership imperatives key to meeting the twenty first century challenges, and realize their role as a catalyst to inspire others to act. Case studies shall be used to enrich critical thinking and innovative ideas.
Prerequisite: MGT 201
MGT 430 Project Management (3 credits )
This course shall examine the organization, planning, and controlling of projects and shall provide practical knowledge on managing project scope, schedule and resources. Topics include project life cycle, work breakdown structure and Gantt charts, network diagrams, scheduling techniques, resource allocation decisions, leadership and teams, organizational structures, and conflict and risk management. Concepts are applied through team projects and tutorials using project management software.
Prerequisites: MGT 201, STP 210
MGT 440 Strategic Management (3 credits )
A capstone course which integrates strategic intent with strategic planning processes. Students shall be proficient with the tools and techniques associated with the strategic planning process. Topics include corporate governance, the five stages of strategic planning process, role of ethics and social responsibility, and the new techniques necessary to navigate an organization surrounded by a turbulent environment to sustainability and progress. The case method of instruction is actively used in this course.
Prerequisite: MGT 201, MKT 201, Senior Standing.
MGT 497 Professional Training Practice (3 credits)
Students work throughout a semester during their junior or senior year with a company in an area of business related to the student’s major. This course provides students with on-the-job experience in their major. This experience will enhance and apply those concepts taught in the classroom.
Prerequisite: Junior Standing or Consent of Advisor
MGT 499 Final Project (3 credits)
This course is divided into parts: the first part teaches students the importance of taking the time and effort for a thorough project initiation and plan launch to ensure that the project starts off on the right foot. Students will learn how to conduct project requirements sessions and develop the business case, as well as define the project charter and create the project plan approach. This course has been designed from a practitioner's perspective, so students will come away from each course with information they can immediately apply on the job.
The second part gives the student the ability to plan, design, implement, and test the project. Students are required to document the project design experience from start until finish. Students shall prepare a professional manuscript and to present details in front of a jury.
