Program Structure
Program Structure
The Department of Translation and Languages has structured the program of the major in line with the highest standards of learning objectives that are adopted by a modern university. The program offered by the Department consists of four types of courses where each one of them is credit based and bound by learning objectives and outcomes with a set of assessment methods. As you may realize in the tables below in the major, there are four titles at the top of each tabulated and coded courses information with their allocated credits. The first type of courses is General Education Requirements (GER) and Liberal Art Requirements; they are a set of compulsory courses of 21 credits for the former and 9 credits for the latter, amounting to 30 credits. These courses are shared and taken on by all university students regardless of their faculty membership or study. These courses enable you to handle confidently both comprehension and application of the Major’s content linguistically and culturally. They are essential preparatory courses for the university academic journey and will equip you with all the foundational material needed for an assured progress on the degree program.
It is expected that the majority of courses are covered in the early phases of your degree study.
The second type of courses is Core Requirements (CR). They are shared and taken on by all students who are part of the Department of Translation and Languages. They aim at introducing the essentials of translation theory and practice. The courses will allow all students to have clearer ideas about a range of theories and practices related to the subject areas before they move to domain-specific translation courses. The total credits for the CR is 33.
The third type of courses is Major Requirements (MR). They are shared and taken on by all students who are part of the Department of Translation and Languages. They include all specialized translation courses as well as some advanced courses in language, theory and research. The total credits for the MR is 30
