Computer Science is a program that focuses on computer theory, computing problems and solutions, and the design of computer systems and user interfaces from a scientific perspective. Includes instruction in the principles of computational science, computer development and programming, and applications to a variety of end-use situations.
The Computer Science department at MU prepares students for variety of industrial careers, including software system & application development, computer systems analysis, web & mobile development, network systems & database administration. Computer science students are introduced to courses covering algorithms, data structures, logic, programming languages, systems, theory of computation, networking, databases, and web programming. Electives include artificial intelligence, computer graphics, computer vision, cryptography, cybersecurity, scientific computing, games programming and mobile programming.
MU Computer Science department is equipped with laboratories which are integrated with different courses to sharpen the skills of the students.
The bachelor of science degree program in Computer Science is accredited by the Lebanese Ministry of Education and Higher Education under decree # 826 dated June 2nd, 2017 & decree # 936 dated October 30th, 2017. Upon graduation, the graduates will be eligible to join the newly-formed Order of Computing in Lebanon.
To graduate with a BS degree in Computer Science, a student must complete a minimum of 97 credit semester hours – that are typically distributed over 3 years:
- A total of 18 credits for general college requirements in all fields
- A total of 18 credits of Mathematics & Science requirements in all fields
- A total of 9 credits of liberal arts
- A total of 46 credits for Computer Science core requirements as specified per major
- A total of 6 credits for technical electives selected from a list of courses specified for the major
