Department of Computer Science
As we embark in the digital age, computing services are becoming predominant in our daily lives.
Nowadays, we use modern technologies that allow us to access diversified digital services from the palm of our hands.
Computer Scientists are nowadays the cornerstone of this digital age!
The Bachelor of Science degree (BS) program in Computer Science at Al Maaref University is accredited by the Lebanese Ministry of Education and Higher Education under decree # 826 dated June 2nd, 2017 and decree # 936 dated October 30th, 2017.
The Computer Science major at Al Maaref University is a three-year program only. With its bonds and common courses with the Computer Engineering program, Computer Science graduates are well suited to create smart solutions for both software and hardware markets.
Upon graduation, the graduates will be eligible to join the newly-formed Syndicate of Computer Sciences in Lebanon.
The major program and its courses are comparable and aligned to the highest academic standards found in International and well-reputable and high-tech universities around the world. Internationally certified professionals and local experts oversee the program and International standard accreditation institutions currently supervise it. We are working on obtaining the ABET accreditation soon.
In addition to the requirements of the ‘University General Education’ and ‘Faculty-based’ courses, we offer currently 16 Computer Science courses. Many of these are integrated with lab sessions to sharpen the skills of the students. The computer lab is equipped with high-end Xeon workstations so students will benefit from their speed and computing power.
Our program includes the latest technologies and innovations in computing. We incorporate modern skills and techniques of the new era. For example, in our Web programming course, we replaced the traditional old-school PHP for the new NODE technology - making our program exceptional in this domain. We teach students how to build fast robust scalable and asynchronous backend services; then we show them how to host it in the cloud.
In our mobile programming course, we rely on the same technologies used by the Giants in the industries like Facebook’s REACT & Google’s Flutter to build single-codebase cross-platform apps that run on various mobile devices. We teach students how to write the same program then compile and run it on different devices.
A modern computing program wouldn’t be complete without discussing artificial intelligence and machine learning. We’ve also included these technologies by teaching students how to develop computer games. Such incorporation of technologies in the gaming environment has proven to be dazzling to the majority of the students.
Our program is tightly connected to the industry and driven by its requirements. Experts in their fields are teaching all our courses.
At Al Maaref University, we encourage our students to pursue technical certifications. We launched a ‘CISCO Academy’ recently in collaboration with ‘CISCO,’ and planning on launching Microsoft and Oracle academies in the near future.
We even embedded a few international certifications in our program; for example, we’ve included CISCO Certified Networking Administrator CCNA levels 1 & 2 in our Networking course. We’ve also included SQL Server Administration in our Database course. In addition to programming, we teach students how to install and administer the database server.
