The Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree offered by the Department of Translation and Languages is a dynamic program delivered by well-qualified and supportive teaching team. You will acquire and develop critical and analytical skills to enable you to evaluate your translation practices and their forms of influence as well as to have a better understanding of the translation industry, its dynamics, products, and audiences.
When you graduate with a degree in Translation and Languages, you will be able to understand and evaluate the translation industries in their social, economic, cultural and professional environments; you will be able to engage with key concepts and theoretical frameworks and will have a more sophisticated understanding of the world as understood through translation; and you will exhibit ethical responsibility in translation practices in any given working environment.
The Translation and Languages degree enable you to develop good teamwork and interpersonal skills. Moreover, it enables you to have a capacity of reflective practice that induces proactive engagement with the real world events. Such combination of knowledge and organizational skills will inevitably equip you with indispensable contemporaneous tools and methods for a range of jobs in the culture industries or for continued graduate studies.
What is the major designed to achieve?
The major is designed to give you the opportunity to:
1-Acquire an excellent command of your mother tongue (Arabic) and two foreign languages (English and French).
2-Acquire an elementary level in a third foreign language (selected from Liberal Arts electives).
3-Get introduced to the fundamentals of translation theory (strategies, methodologies, approaches, etc.) and practice (different domains).
4-Develop research and critical thinking skills required for the accurate comprehension and production of texts.
5-Construct an ethical framework of reference for informed and justified decision making in the translation process.
