CAD/CAM Training – Level 2
Training Description
In the 2nd level of this CAD/CAM training, participants will learn several CAD/CAM features such as milling and turning processes executed especially by CNC machines. Nevertheless, the majority of learned topics are common to other processes when controlled by CNCs such as 3D printers, laser cutting machines, CNC routers, and others.
The fundamentals of metal cutting will be introduced and a review on cutting geometries/materials will be presented as well as modern machining processes. However, the main focus is on G-code generation starting from the creation of a full machining process using SolidWorks which involves the definition of machine and controller, setups, cutting tools, machining strategies, tool paths, speed and feed control, etc. Covered topics include 3-axis milling operations and turning operations. An initiation to 4-axis and 5-axis milling will be also provided during this training.
Afterward, the optimization of machining will be considered and the main elements of optimization will be treated before the last step which is the G-code simulation via “CNC Simulator”.
This reliable simulation is recommended to avoid collisions & to ensure the obtaining of correct parts before spending any money.
Therefore, this training provides a full understanding of the CAD/CAM procedure as well as for G-code and computer numerically controlled machines. This training allows the participants to change their status from “CNC operator” to “CNC user and programmer”. This new level will let them take advantage of the full capacity of their machines and allow designing new processes in new ways, which increases the factory productivity and capacity.
Audience
This training is recommended for industrial and mechanical engineers or senior technicians who use modern manufacturing processes in their workshops.
Outcomes
After this training you will be able to:
- - Read and write G-codes
- - Use SolidWorks to design a new machining process using milling and/or turning operations
- - Simulate and optimize your machining processes
- - Generate G-codes for one or all operations
- - Test G-codes on real machines before operating
